RMB-Raw meaty bones

The Healthy Bark-Caffelatte enjoying a smoked trachea

Starting with Raw meaty bones there are some things you need to consider. The size of the dog, how aggressive of a chewer are they, which work best for feeding into the meal, and which are considered recreational. You would not give a 10 pound dog a turkey neck, or a 100 pound dog a chicken neck. Below is the recommended size bones and which are edible and which are for just a nice chew.

Recreational bones are for chewing on, cleaning teeth, and enjoying. The following will give you examples of the type of bone and the size. Use common sense and you will get past the scary part of feeding raw.

Large Dogs-Beef necks, beef feet, beef pelvis bones.
Medium Dogs-The above plus beef knuckle, beef rib, deer or goat leg.
Small Dogs-Poor neck, pork feet, deer ribs, and any bone they can gnaw on.

Edible bones are ones they will consume as part of their daily food. Edible bones are considered bones that have very little marrow in them. For some smaller breeds it is better to get bone powder from a good source.

Small Dogs-Chicken wings, Chicken necks, Quail, and duck feet.
Medium Dogs-Chicken backs, Chicken quarters, duck necks and pork tails.
Large Dogs-Turkey necks, pork feet, whole rabbit.

Raw Trachea is a great chew as well and my dogs really enjoyed them. Smoked ones will work also. The picture above is Caffelatte enjoying a smoked trachea on my couch! That is why the towel is there..
Beef ribs my babies enjoyed a few times a week. My dogs except my lab were considered medium dogs. They were Bassets but on the smaller size at around 40 pounds.

**Always watch your dogs when they eat bones especially in the beginning. I started my guys out by holding the bones to teach them how to eat it. Yes it is messy, however it let me see how they were going to do with the bones. Edible bones are more pliable, but with that being said, they can still choke if gulped down. Gulpers need to be watched until they learn to eat correctly. Honestly if you have owned dogs for a while you know anything can be a choking hazard.
