A lot of people will be hitting the roads this Holiday, and with them will be their pets. We can be in a rush when making sure we have everything we need to bring with us, so here is a check list, tips, and things to make traveling with your pet a little easier and safer.
Get a heavy plastic tube or make one out of PVC and cap the ends. Make a label that says "Pet Information" and include the following inside the tube. If you were in a wreck and your dog/cat gets out this will be handy for rescue workers.
- Picture of your pet and pet's name
- Phone numbers you can be reached
- Any medical condition your pet has
- Vet's information
Toys to keep them occupied, chew treats, their bed or blanket, bowls, bottled water, and don't forget their food for once you arrive.
When time comes to leave make sure your dog has been walked and do not feed a heavy meal before travel.
I often recommend for long trips to use Answers raw goats milk. If you are not familiar with this product check it out on their website, (The link is on my Approved Product page), it is great for giving them nutrients without filling them up. It digest in 20 minutes, and settles the stomach. This can be fed with their current food a few days prior to so they get use to it. It also stops diarrhea so very handy to have with you.If your trip will be on the road over a few days and you need to stop at a hotel, make your reservations ahead of time. This will help you find a pet friendly hotel early as they fill up fast.
Pet first aid kit should include:
- Tweezers
- Bandages and adhesive
- Cotton balls and swabs
- Antiseptic
- Homeopathic remedy kit (Separate post for info on these)
